Independent Refs

I was watching the Phil Jackson press conference today and heard him talk about his idea of having the nba refs switching to an independent source. I like this idea. At least its worth a try. I don't see any real negatives about it.

Unless, they become even more corrupted by the gamblers, which could be really bad.

But getting back to Phil, he did say a couple of funny things regarding the refs. In the current system, because the NBA are running the refs, nobody inside the game can criticize it. He compares it to a "Sacred Cow" in the sense that people on the inside are only allowed to say, oh shucks, the refs tried their best but blew it.

The other funny thing Phil mentioned was in his response to a question about corrupt refs. He says that ultimately, we're all "lemmings" in that we follow fads and fashion. Although he didn't really elaborate on the specifics, it's not too hard to understand what he means, which is that as lemmings, no system can fully protect people who want to gain more money through gambling associations.

I would love it if the NBA has a judge or higher official that can over rule calls if they are deemed to be wrong or correct calls that are wrong.
